At Assumption Church we have a full range of services. Following Catholic Social Teaching, we strive to provide social services to those in need. We do this through our in-house social service called “La Mission,” which has initiatives in all essential areas, including health care, nutrition classes, ESL, Legal aid, safety classes, immigration assistance, cold weather assistance and clothing assistance, to name a few.

La Mision

La Mission is a parish based community organization which responds to the Social Teaching of the Church. We are dedicated to improving the health and wellness, educational attainment, human welfare, and opportunities for youth, adults and families in the community of the Richfield and Bloomington areas. The overall goals of our organization are:

  • To provide educational, recreational, cultural, health and lifelong learning opportunities for the Latino community
  • To offer educational advancement opportunities for adults and seniors.
  • To ensure that programs and learning opportunities are readily available to the Richfield and Bloomington communities.
  • To provide a safe and welcoming site for individuals, children and families where they can freely express their needs and concerns.
  • To link individuals and families with existing community agencies and services that will address those needs and concerns.
  • To empower adults and youth and train them to be leaders in their communities.

English As a Second Language
Clases De Ingles Como Segunda Lengua

Our mission in the ESL Ministry is committed to provide instruction in the English Language. This mission is a joint effort with Metro South Adult Basic Education. ESL students come from many different countries, diverse cultures and educational backgrounds. They also have many common needs.

ESL students need to learn English, help their children with homework and interact with Americans on a daily basis. The ESL program’s 10th year (2013-2014) had about 90 enrolled students. The majority of them were Spanish speakers; however, there were also students from, India, Pakistan, Jordan, & others.

The ESL Ministry’s goal is to break down barriers and build stronger, integrated communities. The ESL Ministry is a living example of unification in the Body of Christ.

Classes meet Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Students may enroll at any time during the year.

Free limited childcare available only Tuesday.

Loaves and Fishes

Loaves and Fishes – Creekside

Volunteer Serving Teams Needed!

Loaves and Fishes of Minnesota needs your help. We have several openings for volunteer serving teams. A volunteer serving team is comprised of 12-15 members who purchase, prepare and serve the evening meal in addition to clean up duties. If your group is interested in volunteering as a serving team, please fill out our volunteer follow up form or contact us at

Assumption supports and staffs a team which provides and serves a meal on Wednsedays. For details call the parish office at 612.866.5019 and your contact information will be passed on to the coordinators from Assumption.

Thank you for your care to the hungry!

Bridging was founded on one simple, yet powerful idea – that together we can create a bridge between those in need and those with excess. Twenty-five years and nearly 50,000 square feet later, Bridging is the largest furniture bank in North America.

Parishioners from Assumption have served Bridging since the beginning. Located at 87th St just east of Nicollet it is very convenient for our parish to be involved. To get involved, contact Patricio Peña at the Parish Office at: 612.866.5019.

St. Vincent Depaul

If you are interested in volunteering with St Vincent de Paul please contact Patricio Peña at the Parish Office at: 612.866.5019.

Assumption is proud to assist alcoholics in their recovery and hosts a regular AA meeting on Monday nights in the Activity Center. If you are interested please contact José Reyes at the Parish Office at: 612.866.5019.
